The Shaver of my Father

Since its Fathers’ day month this June, I want to post something that is related about father.

As I am brushing my teeth last night I saw my fathers’ shaver on the top of the sink.  It was very old, and as I remember it was already his shaver when I was a child.

While I am looking at it, this question comes into my mind: How many people in the world still uses this kind of shaver?  Maybe very few, because nowadays many of us wants everything that is instant and everything that is quick.

Last year my husband gave my father an electronic shaver and I ask my father last week why he is not yet using it, he told me that he still have a shaver that’s why he’s not yet using it.  And I think he like this better than the one that we gave him.

My father is now 72 years old, maybe this shaver has the same age as him, but it is still working and doing good.  I wonder how long this shaver will last maybe forever.

Advance Happy Fathers' day to all of the fathers out there.  May God continue to prolong your days in the world and be a blessing to all your children and loved ones.

My Sons' New Pet

Yesterday, we caught few June beetle (salagubang) and we put it in a small tupperware and my son told me that it is his pet. I ask him what pet does he likes to have and he said he wants to have the same pet as his friend in Korea have and it is hamster.  I went to the market today and try to look for a hamster but I cannot find any, so I decided to buy this two cute guinea pig. My son was very happy when he saw them.

Meet G1 (brown and white guinea pig) he is a boy and meet G2 (black and white guinea pig) she is a girl.  We call them G1 and G2 since my sons' name start with G and guinea pig start with G as well.

Guinea Pig

The guinea pigs natural diet is grass. They also like kangkong (water spinach).

Gold Mound Duranta
This plant is sometimes called golden box(bucks maybe) here in Philippines. It is very easy to plant, you just need a mature stem and plant it directly in a soil.

Azalea

Those two flowers I don't know their name yet, if you know please help me put a name on it. Just leave a comment on this post.

Psalm 103:15
As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

Useful Plants and Trees

Camias/Kamias
(Averrhoa bilimbi)

The fruit of camias is sour and is used for cooking shrimp sinigang and in our family we use to ferment the fruit in water and salt and use it as condiments for fried fish and meat.

Kalamansi/Calamansi
(Citrfortunella microcarpa)

Calamansi or calamondin  is a fruit tree native to the Philippines. It is the most commonly grown backyard tree among the citrus species. We usually use this as fresh juice and condiments.

Tanglad/Lemongrass
(Cymbopogon citratus)

Lemongrass is native to tropical Asia. Lemongrass is commonly used in teas, soups, and curries. It is also suitable for poultry, fish, beef, and seafood.

Insects

Praying Mantis

The praying mantis is named for its front legs, which are bent and held together at an angle that suggests the position of prayer. The praying mantis has two colors, green and brown so that it is easier for them to camouflaged within the leaves and branches of the trees.

Salagubang (June Beetle)

The Salagubang or June Beetle is a kind of insect that can be found during summer season or around June that's why they call them June Beetle. In some places in Philippines they used to collect salagubang for food.

Grasshopper

Grasshopper usually found on grasses, leaves and cereal crops because it is their diet.  These small grasshopper I found in our calamansi tree.

These pictures are taken from our backyard, from mango, guava and calamansi trees.
